BTS Punnawithi: the newest Bangkok hotspot

Most people probably haven’t heard a lot about the area around BTS Punnawithi. However, that is changing. What was once a non-descript station between On Nut and Bang Na has exploded into a property hotspot. And with trendy eateries sitting side-by-side with street food stalls along the neighbourhood’s most famous popular street, Sukhumvit 101, it’s a place to embraces facets of Bangkok life.

The BTS Punnawithi property rush all started with Whizdom 101 from Magnolia Quality Development Corporation. The massive mixed-use development is home to True Digital Park along with retail and commercial space along with Whizdom Connect Sukhumvit, an imposing residential development. Some of dubbed Whizdom 101 as a “city within a city” but just how this shakes out remains to be seen. The project’s first buildings opened earlier this year with more on the way.

However, Whizdom 101 is not the only construction happening near BTS Punnawithi these days. Several new residential projects are springing up in this neighbourhood that still maintains an unpretentious charm not found elsewhere in Bangkok’s city centre.

What’s around BTS Punnawithi?

While Whizdom 101 has plenty of modern conveniences, most people get off the BTS and head right for Sukhumvit 101. The two-lane street is lined with charming restaurants, chill bars and plenty of food and beverage options that are significantly cheaper than Thong Lo.

Rabbito Café is one of the neighbourhood’s most popular spots. If you ever thought someone should open a cat café but replace the felines with rabbits, then we have some good news. This is that place.

Next door to Rabitto Café is La Tasca, a quaint tapas spot serving authentic Spanish cuisine inspired by the chef’s home in Las Palmas. Further down the street is Casa Pasta and Big Burger & Pizza, a couple of unique dining options. You’ll also find no shortage of chic coffee shops around BTS Punnawithi.

If you happen to be a digital nomad or simply want a space to work, head to THINK Society, a co-working facility that also has its own coffee shop on-site. It’s a short walk from BTS Punnawithi.
